Eyesight evaluation in resource constraint settings
Impaired vision is a problem which is not at the priority of majority of people to get corrected, until it begins to hamper their daily activities. But once intervened at the right time, it can be corrected in a fairly short span of time.
There are nearly 28 disorders related to the Eye.This is a plot of various Eye disorders bringing out their severity with Age line. The font size indicates the relative Prevalence of the disorder. The colors indicate the severity, with Blue being low severity.
A Mapping of the disorders on the basic eye anatomy, according to the part of the eye they are related to.
Chunking off of disorders based on anatomy of the eye, prevalence and level of severity. The disorders to be taken forward were 'Refractive Errors' or Disorders in which Eye Power is affected..

Three Ideas for Objectively Evaluating Refractive Errors: 1) This concept uses Alvarez lenses (a kind of gradient lenses) which when slided against each other
give variable diopters. The person when can comfortably read the text kept below by sliding these lenses, would give an idea of eye power.
2) This concept is based on achieving different diopters through a combination of two lens system. With a micrometer mechanism the distance between lenses is directly converted to rotation, converting that figure into eye power.

Phase- II Brainstorming Ideas
1) Information in standardized font size put at bus stand shades, for people to check their eyes themselves.
2) Information published in newspaper daily; One page can be dedicated specially to a Snellen chart on sundays.
3) Teachers can check eyesights of all children in the class together by writing a
particular size text or displaying specially made charts for eye testing.
