Sullivan Farmhouse

The Sullivan Farmhouse is a straw bale construction. Built on an organic farm where temperatures consistently rise into the triple digits, a space was needed to sort vegetables, wash and prepare meals, and relax during the height of the sun. Straw seemed an obvious choice and the entire structure was built over one summer. Including the eco-sesitivity of the straw, the house has a slanted shed roof designed to reflect the majority of the sun and allow the cross-breeze to enter through the clerestory windows. The interior is an open floor plan with two columns acting as the divider between the kitchen and living space. A large picture window is placed with a view over the avocado farm.
