The Waste to Wealth Project

Garbage is small things which is easily accessed in huge amount. Garbage is often just neglected, waiting to be buried or burned. But what if instead of being treated as mere wastes, we treat garbage as a huge potential material? So we look into more detail of what kind of garbage found in river and what can it be made to. We found that organic waste have the most percentage, as for the inorganic, plastic have the most amounts. Plastic is a very lightweight material and we decided to use that characteristics to create a floating structure.

From just garbage, we dream of designing something to make the local communities along Jakarta’s rivers thrive. What if we could design a sustainable community? What if we could make it autonomous, independent from the needs of government’s sustenance and energy? It could also create a big impact for the city as we use the full potential of the used to be neglected riverside area. After much thought and research, we proposed our design in 5 phases.
