Banter - for NCR & Intel (Design Ethnography & Interaction Design)
This was my Masters Internship project while a student of MSc Design Ethnography at University of Dundee during 2009-10, a collaboration with Intel PaPR group USA and NCR, Dundee.
This project involved a detailed ethnographic study about how strangers interact with each other in public spaces. The research fed into the design and development of collaborative futuristic technology in public spaces.
A transparency flip book & base-map of the observed space (Glasgow Central train station) were created as tools for taking ethnographic field notes.
Ethnographic findings of people's activities were recorded on the base-map. Different activities were identified by colour-coding.
The Heat Map shows people's movement. Red areas indicate the busiest zones. This image was processed from hundreds of stills captured at the field of study.
After data analysis, we created some design prototypes of objects which would facilitate interaction between strangers in public spaces.
