Where's the Phone? - In 2004, I participated in a series of studies to understand where people carry mobile phones. Fumiko Ichikawa presented the first public results of this research in a paper entitled Where's the Phone - a Study of Mobile Phone Location in Public Spaces (pdf - 343KB) at the Mobility 2005 conference in Guangzhou, China. This paper draws on data from the first 3 studies - Helsinki, Milan and New York. http://www.grignani.org/publications/WheresThePhone_MilanNYHelsinki.pdf
Nokia Design - A View of The Future - Nokia has released short videos that explore how mobile phone design may change in the next three or four years. They are exploring futuristic concepts and potential new ideas that may or may not be produced in years to come. They are designed to inspire and stimulate discussion around how the mobile device of the future might look and function in our lives. http://www.youtube.com/user/NokiaDesign
Nokia Lifeblog - I was part of the 4-people team that created Lifeblog product concept while working at Nokia Research Center in Helsinki (circa 2002). My role was to define and design the desktop (PC/Mac) and mobile clients which were instrumental in communicating the concept to Nokia Executive Board. The board decided to productise Lifeblog; the concept was simplified and both clients were redesigned to meet time-to-market necessities. http://www.nokia.com/lifeblog
Remade - The intent was to create a device made from nothing new. We drew on a simple insight that in the not too distant future humanity will have extracted and worked much of the valuable minerals once buried in planet Earth. We will be compelled to reuse and celebrate what is essentially “above ground”. Thus we explored the use of reclaimed and upcycled materials that could ultimately change the way we make things. http://www.grignani.org/thoughts/2008/02/remade.html
