I designed a line of peppermill end caps that captured the ground pepper before it could end up on the table top and leave a mess. Progressive had an existing line of peppermills that they wanted to retrofit with this cap. The manufacturers were in China for the plastic ones and in India for the wood ones. The inner part was the adapter that fit onto various peppermills both plastic and wood. The outer cap was designed in different diameters to fit the external shape of the various sized peppermills. You twist the outer cap to align the holes and pepper come out, Twist the cap to close and pepper stays in. The cap has molded in detents to snap to stay open or closed. The caps slide off of the peppermills for easy cleaning. The Progressive peppermills were sold in Bed Bath and Beyond, Walmart and online. I also adapted the design to fit the Michael Graves Design versions sold exclusively at Target. All versions were big sellers. All designs are patented and I am listed as the inventor.
