This is a pyro-graphic… “the art of decorating wood or other materials with burn marks resulting from the controlled application of a heated object such as a soldering Iron”. This was a commission from a coworker. The wood ball is actually top end, or the cap, to a walking stick. It has her name and a vine wrapping to the back with a butterfly on the end. I also burned a design onto the walking stick, that when twisted, you could read the surname of the couple. These were very challenging pieces because with pyrography the iron needs consistent movement or else if the iron stays in one place too long it will quickly burn. The ball took me about 4 hours (cradle to crave) and the walking stick took about a week.
