The challenges and tasks were to:
1. Investigate how can 600 years of cultural heritage of the city and its people respond to the perceived contemporary
needs of the people who live/work/interact with Gulbai tekra basti.
2. Identify stories, needs, connections with history, audiences, relationships between them and the chosen site and
strategies with which the conceptualised response aims to connect with them.

Response to the Gulbai tekra basti in Ahmedabad in the context of conserving its 600 years of rich and vibrant heritage.
Design Brief
The city is witness to negotiations between old and new traditions and old and new modernity, rootedness and migration.
It has now entered a phase of rapid expansion seen in its 600 year old history. As students of design, the brief is to
investigate how this expansion has affected the cultural and historic fabric of the city with reference to the specific site
we have chosen individually.
