The Chiron Sofa Bed - designed by Patrick McEldowney, Roslyn Campbell and Emma McAlary.

A joint project with RMIT Associate Degree in Furniture Design and The Salvation Army to design low budget, well designed, contemporary furniture for the Salvo’s crisis housing scheme. The pieces were manufactured by Creative Opportunities- a furniture manufacturing workshop giving employment opportunities to people with minor disabilities.

The design was strictly governed by standard material sizes, the capabilities of the manufacturers (timber only), ergonomic requirements, price and the needs of the Salvation Army.

The timber frame uses Victorian Ash and Pine. The Upholstery was outsourced to Clifton Upholstery in Brunswick.
