Since mid 2012 I have been working on a range of hand-turned wooden pendants and earrings at my workshop. Each piece consists of dozens of thin layers of timber veneer. I use a range of veneers, some natural timbers such as sassafras and pine as well as reconstituted and dyed veneers, and glue them together in a range of patterns. As the pieces are turned on the lathe, beautiful contour lines are revealed according to the profile of the piece. They are then very finely sanded, polished with steel wool and finished with either oil or varnish, depending on whether a gloss or matte appearance is desired.
