Garmin Forerunner 405 - Responsibilities included: form development through sketching, 3D modeling and user interface. Artwork and buckle design handled by other designers after I left Garmin's ID group and joined Garmin's Marketing Communications department.
Astro Dog Tracking System - The Astro System combines GPS with RFS technology to allow hunters to track their dogs. The GPS 60 (the dark green unit) was only modified by adding the long antenna. I designed the DC 20 (the orange unit) which can be attached to the dog in two ways. 1. using the dog's collar 2. in a neoprene harness I designed the neoprene harness that came with the system. I generated many iterations through testing with real hunting dogs and hunter feedback.
Garmin nuvi 800 series - The nuvi 800 is Garmin's first voice recognition PND. I designed the overall form factor for this unit. Details like the speaker slits and buttons were added by other designers. I also animated this unit for a national tv campaign and website. Garmin zumo - Garmin's first GPS specifically designed for motorcycles. I was lead design on this project, responsible for all aspects of physical appearance as well as accessories; 2 mounts, carry case, and replacement decorative caps. Garmin C5-series - This is the follow-up product to the very sucessful C3-series and i-series products. This unit is a blend of the two previous units. The large form factor of the C3 and the funtionality of the ball-in-socket mounting system on the i-series make this a very nice in-car navigator. The C5 has had quite a bit of success in the PND market, but found it's home in OEM and rental car applications. Solid Works Studio Max
Cockpit re-design - The goal of this project was to design an airplane cockpit around the Garmin G1000 system that felt like an automotive interior. Now in production, the Columbia 400 boasts this revolutionary design. It's the first time Garmin has designed an airplane dash/interior. I developed the final design of the dash panel, glare shield and center console. Our design team generated many foam models from my CAD models for testing install in the real plane. Solid Works
Garmin i-series - This was a "half baked" project. I recieved the design request after it had already been mostly designed. My responsibility was to revise the shape and color breaks to more closely resemble the C3-series. I helped invent the mounting system and revised the the suction cup. This was the first product to use Garmin's "ball-in-socket" mounting system which is now a standard for nearly all Garmin PND systems. Solid Works Studio Max
Garmin C3-series - My first product design! This has been a VERY sucessful product. It was Garmin's first all touchscreen PND. Millions of these units were sold before it was retired to the nuvi line. I still see them on the road... I was responsible for designing the entire package; from the unit, to the various mounts, to the carry case. I learned ALOT on this project... www.garmin.com/products/sp330/# Solid Works Studio Max
Top 10 list of Garmin Inventors - This is a screenshot from Garmin's patent inventors list. It shows 23 patents to my name, but I'm also listed on many international and re-issued patents totaling around 40 that I'm associated with.
