Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) – Crossroads - Change in Rural America

The SITES mission is to create high quality traveling exhibits for towns and communities that wouldn’t normally be able to afford them. Their exhibits are offered for free, to communities across the U.S.
For this project I had to refine and further develop an exhibit system to work well with their clientele of public libraries, historical societies and the like. Each component has to be setup, knocked down, packed and unpacked with minimal effort. Every aspect was designed, right down to how the crates and truck were to be packed. I worked closely with the SITES Exhibit Director and staff as well as with the metal shop to develop prototypes for testing until a final system was determined.
The exhibit interprets how populations have shifted in rural America over time and how rural America is changing to adapt and overcome the challenges it faces.
