Noguchi Chess Design Competition, 2005 - Platonic Chess
Designed by Patricia Tower
Finalist in the 2005 Isamu Noguchi Chess Design Competition. Judges included: Karim Rashid, Olympic Chess Champion,
Objective was to re-design the traditional chess set for the 21st century. This design translates the hierarchy of the traditional pieces into five platonic solids + buckyball. The queen is the most powerful piece, therefore she is the buckyball, Carbon, which is the most powerful element in nature. (board has dots for spaces)
