Design with a metaphor - The Project was an exercise to understand the philosophy of designing with a metaphor. As a classroom exercise we selected to take the alphabet ‘O’ as the metaphor. Various concepts were explored some that were aimed more towards solving a problem. The final concept was selected after reviewing a bunch of concepts. The criteria for selection were: closeness to the letter from O, manufacturability, and material. The end prototype was made from polypropylene and I had to design my own fixtures for moulding the various shapes. Polypropylene can be a difficult material if the forming process is not paid attention to. By the end of this project we had realized our design and learnt about the do’s and don’ts in manufacturing using polypropylene.
A special thanks to project mate in this project, Amardeep Singh. \m/
