Love in the Time of Cholera - “Love in the Time of Cholera” is a book cover project for a class. The book cover, unlike many of the author’s modern covers, attempts to reflect the romance, the many years the story spans and the setting through a rustic approach by using vintage art from Latin American cigar packaging.

Self-Portrait - Printed in Cody Clarke’s Typeslam class, these mono prints are my first efforts on the letterpress. Started with small scale prints exploring the affordances of type and ink, and then moved on to large scale. Exploring a self-portrait with letters, I discovered how much of “me” is defined by where I have lived: Istanbul, New Orleans, New York and Los Angeles.

Pre-Paid Wishing Tree - Based on the same Harper’s Index figures I used for my motion design “Pray Mart” I designed an installation of a representational store for pre-paid cards and a tree to clip them on, similar to a wishing tree.  From Japanese to Turkish, many cultures have wishing practices that involve tying artifacts on trees.  To bring the controversial commercialized aspect of Saranam.com to focus, I used the prayers and information on the specific Hindu gods from the website.

Ex-Libris Notorious: Madonna - The project involved designing a notorious profile on the letterpress with a bookplate for them.  I found a quote that she said “wants to rule the world”.  She ruled the world with her music producing an impressive amount of songs challenging social and spiritual conventions.  I ruled the letterpress by designing new ways of printing.  In order to be able to print the rays of text, I designed triangular furniture, blocks that keep the letters from moving on the press.

NeoRealism Film Festival Poster - The project was to design a two color poster that could also be cut into six pieces and french fold and staple to work as a brochure. The topic was Italian Neo-Realist Cinema. I concentrated on facial expressions to convey the mood of these films and experimented with color to communicate the dire states the characters lived in.
