Cube Identifed Sphere Implied - This piece is another exploration of Sacred Geometry relationships in 1/2 inch stainless steel.
Dancer 1 - This piece was inspired by time lapse photography of a dancer doing pirouettes. The sweep of her arms suggested spiral planes to me. welded stainless steel-39 inches tall
"Double Helix" - Inspired by the original model of DNA built by James Watson and Francis Crick. welded stainless steel-height 36 inches without base
"Sea Spiral with Bronze Center Line" - Here's yet another iteration of my spiral addiction, this time with a narrow band of bronze welded to the inner center line of the form. The sculpture is actually hollow. Two identical helical forms are welded all around the outside perimeter but separated by 3/4 of an inch by the band of bronze running vertically on the inside of the spiral. This piece is available for purchase. Please note me for pricing.
"Squaring the Circle" - As I mentioned in making the models leading up to this piece, there is a perceived dynamic energy resonance between the cube and the sphere when CONGRUITY OF VOLUMES is reached.I do not know why,as yet,nor what this energy is,but it is palpable... Finally done, here's the close up showing the difference between the stainless sphere and the bronze cube.
"Breakthrough" - This piece (in welded stainless steel) was inspired by a very famous photograph of an apple being shot with a bullet captured at the moment of the bullets exit with time lapse photography. I sold this work in June. It is photographed amid other of my works in my 3 acre sculpture garden.
"Gift from the Sea" - Another stainless helical shaped sculpture inspired by a shell fragment my grandmother gave me as a child that I've held onto these 40 years...
"Almost" - This is an abstract expression of the difficulty that arises when things "almost" make it ,but don't. When relationships almost mesh but don't. When dreams almost come true ,but don't. When plans almost play out like you planned it ,but don't... Welded stainless steel.
"Dodecahedral Sphere" - I've been imagining how I could make a perfect sphere for several years and finally own the skill to do so...These are stainless discs which are 10 inches in diameter x 3/16ths thick ,cold formed with a 100 ton frame press to an exact radius using accurate male and female dies(which I made). The sphere is configured as a dodecahedron would be(12 pentagonal plates), except instead of pentagons ,I'm using circles(discs). The final figure is just over 19 inches in diameter.
"Flite" - This piece is called Flite and it is spelled correctly. The term refers to a shape ,like turnings off a lathe, they are helical forms. I sold this at the same time and to the same collector in June of 2006. It is made of 1/2 inch thick stainless steel cold formed and welded together from 3 spiral sections of a recycled food conveyor system(food auger). These big spiral matrixes rotate in large commercial vats keeping the ingredients moving while cooking (like corn chips).
"Genesa Crystal " - Anyway, this Sacred Geometry configuration is based on the spherical representation of the cuboctahedron and contains within it all five of the Platonic Solids. This fact was first proved by the visionary architect and futurist Buckminster Fuller( a friend of my father's). The idea of the Genesa Crystal was developed in the 1950's by Dr. Derald Langham, an agricultural geneticist.
"Industrial Tropic" - This work finally got installed today after it's 10K paint job.The colors change as you walk around the piece and as the light changes. It forms the focal point for Palm Square shopping center on the North side of Santa Rosa,(where I live). At the outset the client told me the piece would be painted and I also was restricted to the banana leaf motif, both aspects took me far outside my "comfort zone. Height 12 feet.
"Mytosis 3" - An abstract expression of cell division. The synapse have not completely severed yet,but it's ALMOST two distinct cells. This was made with two stainless gazing balls from a local nursery that went belly up and some stainless 1/4 inch rod that was lying about my studio. This piece is available for purchase. Please note me for pricing.
"Sea Spiral Sculpture Fountain" - Finally the landscaping is done and my sculpture fountain has been installed, in the Healing Garden at the trauma center of Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. They purchased the piece in August of 06 but the landscaping has only just now been accomplished and installation complete. It's perhaps difficult to see in this photo but there is a very thin sheet of water coursing evenly down round the outside of the cylindrical base. The spiral and base is fabricated in stainless steel.
