LANDSCAPEStories
LANDSCAPEStories encompasses how the range of stories within a historical site are revitalized to enrich the connections between a visitor and sense of place. The historical site of LANDSCAPEStories takes place along a fourteen-mile gold mining trench called the Princess Ditch that was constructed during the California Gold Rush in the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, California. To improve upon standard informational signage the interpretative sign for the Princess Ditch Trail is no longer detached from the landscape, but is integrated within design elements. Designing for multiple sensory qualities including touch, sight, and sound enriches the visitor’s connection to the sense of place by allowing each visitor to interpret their own landscape stories.
