Wall Mirror/Key Holder - For this project, we had to create a piece of household furniture out of cardboard, for people who have limited space and resources, like students. I decided to create a mirror/keyholder combo to help save floor space.
Spoon Holder - I created this spoon holder for people to use in the workplace so that they can set their spoon down without creating a mess. It was made by vacuum drape forming.
CD/DVD Holder - This is a CD/DVD holder that can be attached to the wall or used sitting on a shelf. It was created using plywood with a cherry stain and a polyurethane finish, and 16 gauge Sheet Steel with a chrome powder coat.
Games Table - I created this table out of steel, with a wood base for the table top, and I finished it with a chrome powder coat. I also created the graphics for the backgammon playing surface and layered it onto a magnetic sheet so that it could be interchanged with other game sheets. The playing pieces are small glass stones that fit into the long indents on the sides of the playing surface.
Games Table - Legs - Being a poor student, I have to salvage a lot of my material out of scrap heaps, which was what I had to do for the pipe legs of my games table. This image shows the original rusted state of the pipes on the right and then how I was able to transform them.
Foldable chair for Kelty - For this project, we designed a portable, foldable chair and presented it to Kelty representatives. It was not for production.
Steps for usage - Step 1 - simply remove the chair from its canvas carrying bag. Step 2 - Pop up the arms. Step 3 - Drop down legs. Step 4 - Pop up the back.
Detachable mug - The mug can be slipped onto the end of either arm of the chair, thereby allowing for customization by right or left-handed people.
Cue Rack - This cue rack was made to match my pool table. It is made out of walnut solid stock and it was finished with walnut danish oil and a couple coats of polyurethane to protect the surface. I created four circular recesses in the top surface, which fit most coasters, so that they can be customized and inlaid into the table.
Flower Box - This flower box was my first attempt at working with wood. It is made out of walnut solid stock and was finished with walnut danish oil. The three slots fit the average size of flower container in which flowers are sold at most grocery stores. The interior grill is built into the box to allow for water drainage, and I created it by punching holes in 18 gauge sheet steel then giving it a hammer-tone powder coat finish.
Vuyo - I am South African, so I decided to use a word from a South African language, Xhosa, to title this chair. Vuyo, which means to be comfortable and happy.
