A federal scientific research agency was seeking to optimize the user experience of pages in its internal data system, presenting data released by the agency (so called Data Release Landing Pages). As a UX consultant to the group, managing the product, I developed and analyzed results of a usability study, the purpose of which was to assess the ease of identifying datasets, evaluating their fitness for use, and downloading datasets of interest. The findings of the study and redesign recommendations, which were presented to the product team and developers, drove the redesign. The images show the Landing Page as it looked before the redesign and the mockup, which illustrates suggestions based on the study. A sample of the redesigned page can be seen at https://www.sciencebase.gov/catalog/item/5537d9f6e4b0b22a15808772.
