Brief: Design a mobile soap dispenser which can be used with one hand. Strategic design choice: Suggest a one hand usage with a smart system, firstly because it’s more convenient, but also because parents always need to carry many things in their hands or holding their baby/kids. The outlook of the product is also not a toy, it is a hygiene product, so it must look serious, but with a round and reassuring shape. Initially the intent of SureClean was to go for 100 ml bottle, but I strongly suggested going for a 50 ml bottle, easier to pack in a handbag/backpack. My involvement in this project: • design team leader & lead designer • project / ressources management • client interface • market analysis • trend analysis • product concept (especially on opening/usage systems) & general architecture • industrial design (sketching, CAD, CMF) • 3D rendering • Prototyping
SureClean - Concept 01 This concept was clearly inspired from products dedicated to babies. This is the proposal that is the more in line with the baby universe, directly inspired by the rattle. The body is in white rubber, and not transparent, to offer the best UV protection. The product works with one hand, by simply positioning the head straight, in order to use the product. I added a bungee cord to make it a more nomadic product. All the concepts remained white and grey, not to influence SureClean by colours for the design choice.
SureClean - Concept 02 This concept is a more consensual design, with soft shapes and a very simple system with a protective cap. The source of inspiration: the elegance of the bottle “flower” from Kenzo and this little “voluntary/torso bulging” side of the concept 3. The cap cannot be lost, thanks to a little cord. The whole product is smooth, friendly but also looks very professional and serious at the same time (thanks among other things to the work applied on the nozzle).
SureClean - Concept 03 I designed this concept with a formal code that is close to the baby universe, as it is very round. I focused on the opening and closing of the nozzle with one hand, with a strong internal locking system and clear indications on opened/closed status. I wanted to give the bottle a “friendly” look (with its big belly) and originality with an offset base. This gives the product a “plump little guy’s belly”, a little bit inspired by characters from the animated film Despicable Me, as one might imagine saying: “I’m not afraid of you, microbes. I will eat you!” After doing a mock-up, SureClean agreed that 100 ml was too big for a mobile usage.
SureClean - Final Design The final design, with its label (designed by the graphic design agency appointed by SureClean). This design was scaled down to a 50 ml, more suited for a nomadic usage. It is also straight up, to more easily fit into a handbag. It now features an elastomer belt, to attach a funny small trinket to the botthe, or the bottle itself to be attached to avoid any loss.
