Brief: Design of an advanced prospective desk light concept for Philips to explore the future possibilities for desk lights. The concept target was designers, architects, engineers, executives and tech enthusiasts. Strategic design choice: Use of projection technology to help visualisation and creative work, but also improve the efficiency of remote working / remote meetings. My involvement in this project: • design team leader • project / ressources management • client & factory interface • industrial design (CAD, CMF) • boards & videos to explain the concept to investors & design competitions
Philips - Advanced desk light concept This advanced design is a prospective concept for the year 2025. It features a smart projection system to project elements on a desk surface, so users could combine virtual and real elements, boosting their creative process. It is also a very good way for Philips to demonstrate its know-how in terms of lighting and technology integration. The light itself can be vertically adjusted, thanks to an internal pulley system and a counterweight. It also features a physical remote control, an advanced UI system and a smartphone app control system. The head and arm articulations mechanical system makes sure that the head light remains always horizontal, would the arm be vertical or horizontal (or anything in between). It won the Silver Zayton Cup International Design Competition in 2023.
Philips - Advanced desk light concept Details of the physical touch sensitive UI on the base of the product. When the light is turned on, all features appear under the plastic surface. The physical remote control is equipped with magnets, so it can very easily fit on the base of the product (for recharging the remote). The remote control can also be projected on the desk, using movement tracking to adjust settings.
Philips - Advanced desk light concept The linked app can project the interface of related work drawings, pictures or videos, which could be manipulated live by the user. It can also be used for collaborative work, each user being connected with one light, one drawing something and the remote user seeing the drawing or indications projected on its desk in real time. The system could be the first stone of a new market for products, applications and usages. Bluetooth and wireless remote control system partners together to bring a new control interaction experience.
