Brief: Accompany a self-entrepreneur on the development of a luggage company, by analysing the market and designing an innovative luggage range. Strategic design choice: Rather than just designing a range of luggage, I suggested designing it as an ecosystem, with luggage truly made for each other, and manufactured with quality and repairability in mind. A smart way to save environment is to have quality products which can be easily maintained and repaired by users. So the maximum of parts had to be thought with standard interoperability by users. Brio - Model 2, carry-on The whole range of luggage is based on the design of the carry-on model. It is a very modern and simple, yet elegant design language. It is all in round shape, but cut with strict lines, to give to the luggage a trendy, but technical style. The front shell is round and vertically cut, making a good compromise between elegant shape, and rational space saving.
Brio - Model 2, carry-on The luggage is made of PC sheets and was thought to have interchangeable front pocket skins and to be the first PC luggage to be expandable. The top handle is located in the front of the luggage to easily lift the luggage when a laptop bag is on top. The handle is made of aluminium and covered with elastomers, for a strong, but comfortable grip. The closing system is made of an aluminium frame and uses a fingerprint locking system. The sliding handle is not telescopic, for stronger durability and rigidity. The main handle’s shape is specially designed to easily accommodate any kind of bag or laptop bag, but also hold in place the flight bag of the product range. It can also hold a jacket.
Brio - Model 1, flight bag This flight bag is made to carry a laptop/table but also a few clothes, for a very short business trip. It is made of PC and the front interchangeable skin allow for multiple configurations of the front part. The top handles are made of rubber and an inner armature, so it can be both flexible and strong enough to carry around. The handles have magnets, so the 2 parts can stand in upright position.
Brio - Model 1, flight bag The flight bag can also be carried over the shoulder, thanks to a rubber flexible part, attached to an automatic belt system that is similar to car seatbelts (this system was already available on the market). For more comfort, the back of the flight bag is covered with durable foam.
Brio - Model 3, check-in This model is the big cargo of the range. Its square shape makes it highly recognisable. Like the carry-on, it is expandable and all made of PC and aluminium. It also features a very distinctive and smart handle system, ideal for all kinds of terrain. The wheels and their attachments are the same as the ones of the carry-on. Same for the side handles.
Brio - Model 3, check-in The most important feature of the luggage is its main handle, which can take any angle (free or locked). Therefore, the luggage can be pushed or pulled in a one motion movement, for example when the user leaves a very flat and smooth surface for an area covered by a carpet (the nightmare of 4 wheeled luggage). The luggage features a protective skin system, which can be easily replaced. All handles and wheels can be easily replaced by users (provided they purchased the parts). It features a fingerprint locking system (protected from shocks, thanks to its special shape) and an all-flat design for the handles. This model can receive on its top either the carry-on, or the flight bag, all locked in place by oblong shaped areas (male/female) and magnets.
Brio - Model 1, flight bag The flight bag is separated into 4 areas: front zipper pockets, front frame, a middle storage area and a back frame, which can be opened in 2 different ways. Brio - Model 3, check-in For the same benefits, the check-in luggage has the same opening system as the carry-on. It has a 90° locking system and the inside of the luggage welcome a fabric removable/foldable shelf, for easy packing, unpackaging and clothes storage. Like this, when you travel and change hotel every night, you do not need to unpack all your clothes, you just need to hang the shelf storage system and put it back in the luggage when you leave.
Brio - Model 3, 2 and 1 Here are the 3 luggage of the range, set in different configurations: slim mode, expanded mode, stack on each other or independent. This range really has its own design language, but more important: it is an ecosystem, not just some different size of luggage.
