Re-thinking time for Breil
Pictured here is my entry to the designboom.com “Design Time” competition, which was endorsed by Italian watch manufacturer Breil.
The brief stated that the watch must make use of stainless steel as the main material, that it must be analog not digital, and must be an “attractive, feasible design that could have success as a real watch in the company’s line”.
My approach was to turn the insistence of the brief to avoid digital elements on its head, and instead think about what a digital watch diplays that an analog doesn’t - numerals instead of hands. I implemented a dial system that would be driven by the analog internals, but display something similar to that of a digital piece.
The entry was was one of few shortlisted entries, and was the focus o a special article on the designboom.com website.
