Home for Homeless Birds
My intent with this birdhouse is to design a home for homeless birds. Great tits are a non-migratory bird that are very common in Europe and sprinkled throughout Asia and northern Africa. They were originally woodland birds that nest in cavities in tree trunks now have adapted to live in nest boxes to survive with changes to the environment.
I experimented with various materials, finishes, and methods that are eco-conscious. The latest stage of the project used cardboard and cardboard is the material the homeless use to build their shelter. By using cardboard, not only are we providing the Great Tits shelter but are also eco-conscious. For the next stage, I hope to experiment with linseed oil and wax to provide the water proofing needed.
