Survivors rest and sit on NFA rice sacks under the shade of a shipwreck.
Residents near barangay Anibong, one of the many areas greatly affected by the storm surge, salvaging anything that can be used for comfort and sustainability.
A child survivor rests on a toppled pole, ignoring the drizzle.
Many areas were flooded due to the debris and waste that clogged the drainage. A lot of people threw out their trash outside their houses due to the absence of garbage trucks / collectors.
A man taking shelter during a sudden downpour. Although it is not stated, many of the people affected were traumatized indeed and the sound of rain makes them remember the storm surge and other things they have witnessed that day. Others, witnessed the death of their grandparents, family, and cousins. Rain to some, is the way the world is cleansed but for others it is a painful reminder of what was lost and what is left.
December 24, 2013 4:32 AM A mass being held inside the damaged but still operational airport in Tacloban city.
Arrival of other members of the Tzu Chi Foundation. They are an organization that sought to help people affected. They gave away supplies, food and financial support to different barangays around the city but they focused mostly on the areas that were directly hit by the surge.
40 days after the incident, people lit up the streets with candles that stretched from San Jose to the city. I didn't really know about this until I went outside and then I just saw these people going to one side of the street and lighting up candles. The line was so long that it just fades.
