The Book Cover I used sepia tones to emphasize that at present there is still recovery and it is not yet the "colorful" Tacloban that people know about . The subject on the book cover (front and back) is the Leyte Landing Memorial. The front cover was taken on September, the back cover taken on December. The cover indicates strength, perseverance and moving forward. Gobold Font was used because I wanted to avoid the impression Serif's give and the book is for young adults because the marketing is through social media and word of mouth. Although the study was done in a rush due to the major setback, I believe that the youth can influence adults in making purchases like this especially if it could benefit those who are affected.
Introductory Ad I used the tag line Know about it, Be a Part of it, to encourage the prospects to be part of it through a purchase of this book. By knowing about it today, they can be a part of its tomorrow since empathy is one of the bases for making these kinds of decisions and by evoking a sense of community as well.
Book Launch Ad The book launching will be held at BGC FullyBooked - BrideWay, since majority of the target market and class often visit the area nearby it. I believe if ever this will be pulled off it could really work. Especially if the bookstore helps with the promotion.
Sustaining Ad 1 The idea of the sustaining ads is to show the viewers past and present and in grey-scale to avoid having attention bias on the colored half (the still undamaged interior). This is by the way, The Santo Niño Church. It's the oldest church in the city, I believe. This was really a lucky shot. Who knew it would happen. I checked all my files and lay them out and then I saw the idea. I told myself, "I could put them together!". So, that's the story of the other sustaining. You could say it was serendipity in my case.
Sustaining Ad 2 The Docks These docks aren't the same but the idea is present. I would've taken the photograph of the wooden dock but my brother wouldn't let me get near the water. He was traumatized you see and the sight of big bodies of water gives him unpleasant thoughts. He was on top of the roof when the typhoon flooded my home.
Sustaining Ad 3 Magsaysay Boulevard Left (December) - Right (September)
Promotional Ad A Photo Essay contest with the theme of "Today / Tomorrow" for students. The idea is to let them express what they think and feel towards the adversity that happened to their fellowmen. It's also to give people hope because everyone is facing a challenge in their life. Their own personal Haiyan/Yolanda and this is an opportunity to be heard and to be helped along the way.
Institutional Ad The Black Pencil Project created a toy drive for the children who were affected by the typhoon. Children need more comfort especially some of them are not emotionally stable, the stuffed toys / bears would serve as comfort and support for them. Hugging reduces stress and holding a hug for an extended time lifts one's serotonin levels, elevating mood and creating happiness.
Endorsement Ad Lourd Ernest Hanopol de Veyras a Filipino musician, emcee, poet, journalist, broadcast personality and activist who first became famous for being the vocalist of Manila-based jazz rock band Radioactive Sago Project. He is also from Palo, Leyte. He made a blog post about the adversity and his hopes for recovery for the areas affected. http://www.spot.ph/this-is-a-crazy-planets/54979/tacloban
The Book Dimensions 9.5 x 9.5 x 1

Tacloban : Today / Tomorrow

Tacloban : Today / Tomorrow is a thesis that aims to create and sell a book on Tacloban City that shows how people lived before the adversity (Haiyan/Yolanda) on November 08, 2013 and how the livelihood has changed ever since that day.

Tacloban is not a popular city compared to the other neighboring provinces and cities but it had it's own fair share of beauty that was unnoticed and now is somehow still struggling to recover.

The original objective was to create a coffee table book that would show the readers the beauty and sights of Tacloban but the project took a detour after the typhoon.

The book is about hope, restoration and perseverance in returning the state of Tacloban and most especially in support of those who call the place, home.
