China Blames Pollution for Surge in Birth Defects - This illustration was made for an article in the Los Angeles Times with the same title. I chose collage as the medium for the illustration to hint that the problem, and also the solution, is man-made. I put the factory where the boy’s hat would have been in order to show that the pollution becomes a part of the boy’s body as he grows. Once the damage is done, it is likely not reversible.
