This was the first proposed mechanism, the trough was going to be vacuum fed. The water would fill to a set level before stopping due to a vacuum in the bottle. This design was abandoned in favor of a simpler design because the production costs would have been too high.

This is the current design of the mechanism for the AquaTrough. The mechanism works identically to a sports bottle. The user would need to squeeze the bottle and water will jet out into the trough, this mechanism was chosen because the productino costs were much lower.
