School furniture design became more challenging with an added design brief of seating for municipal schools of India.
The way in which we could use the best of given materials and make it
easy for production,
easy for adaption for school children and keeps
the cost factor in mind.
My basic research shown that children from senior years to 2nd grade, usually sit down on the floor with a dari and have a bench for writing.
Intuitively I went by continuing the floor seating, which resulted in to a major cost cutting as well. As now I was dealing on with the floor working surface. My first approach was to provide the acrylic working surface, to address the language of space differently. With the gesture, that even these less resourced children can have an environment of study with glass working surfaces. I went on to making on one, and learnt acrylic bending process to its core. How an individual seat can become a major "group event" while its in the making.
