Grasshopper Furniture Family
The state of the furniture industry is such that people value disposability and low cost more than they value the furniture itself.
This generates a lot of unusable waste, and is partly because people are so mobile, always moving from home to home.
I wanted to provide an elegant solution to the endless cycle of purchase and disposal.
This furniture set uses standardized parts to minimize production costs and collapses into a flat package, which is easier to transport. It also uses no glues or fasteners, and is held together by its own weight. This means fewer parts and a lesser environmental impact.
The form was inspired by a grasshopper’s legsmid-jump.
