Childhood obesity is one of the UK’s most concerning issues, with approximately 31% of children in the UK now overweight. This is mostly caused by a poor diet or lack of exercise. Teaching children at an early stage the benefits of a healthy diet is imperative in addressing the issue.
The Healthy Learning Plate educates children under the age of 6 about the health benefits of various foods, through facts and characters, during mealtimes. Each segment is removable, so new facts can be viewed by the child on different days. Segment sizes are specific to encourage parents to evaluate the portions they are giving their child.
The plate is separated into three sections; proteins, vitamins and carbohydrates, which I found through research are essential for a balanced diet. Each section has a part that slides out, that contains information about a food relevant to that section.
