Cross-disciplinary design projects and virtual collaboration are two recent trends among student graphic designers. DesiCollab is a design collaboration tool that allows student graphic designers to collaborate in the virtual space. Existing collaboration tools for project management and graphic design are complex and cater to industry professionals and enterprises, but this tool identifies the need for a more simplistic and practical collaboration tool for student graphic designers.
A sample of the core elements of DesiCollab include:
1. Version control & Track Changes: To ensure that all designers involved in a design project are working on the most up-to-date content.
2. Real-time Communication: To allow designers to obtain real-time feedback from one another during the design process. For example, as Bob is working on an image, Alice, who is also in the "design space" sees and can comment or communicate in real-time with Bob.
3. Collaborative Editing: To allow individual or groups of designers to work simultaneously on the different parts of a design project. For example: Bob can be working on a process diagram while Alice is editing an image.
4. Annotation & Markup Tools: To provide collaborators with necessary annotation and mark-up tools including but not limited to highlighters, shapes and figures, text boxes, color palettes, and other used collaboration functions.
5. Compatibility: To allow designers to import and export multiple file formats so designers can import complex designs from other graphic processing software such as Adobe Photoshop.
It also allows members to have net meeting through text as well as voice.
