Clifford Spring Rocker - Licensed from Scholastic, Clifford was a fun, yet difficult beast to tame.
Buyer's rendering - Concept rendering presented to Toys 'R Us buyers.
Side view - Simple orthographic view of rocker. Normally, I would design a product from start to finish, but this time I had to hand the design over to a sculptor. Not the way I like to work :)
Early mockup - Very early mockup of clifford, using 4 pound foam, red paint, plastalina, and a competitor's rocking horse frame.
Not yet Clifford - The sculptor sent this image to me. Doesn't look much like Clifford. I had them UPS the model to me for the weekend.
Clifford! - This is the model after I worked on it over the weekend and UPS'd it back to the model shop. Clifford!
Part markup - Early run of Clifford sent to me for review. Sharpie rendering.
Outside of blow mold - Licensed from Scholastic, Clifford was a fun and difficult beast to tame.
Inside of blow mold - A-side of Clifford mold prior to Teflon coating.
Safety frame 3D - Injection molded removable safety frame for really young users. CAD file.
Rapid prototype - Rapid prototype of connection detail of the blow molded rocker. Fragile, and messy powder RP, but it was quick
Wooden model - Expensive shiny wooden model of the Clifford rocker. Notice the dog bone motif?
First part - Clifford is ready to go to market! This project required rubber castings, blow molding, and injection molding. It all came together nicely, but ultimately, the packaging was a complete failure and the product was killed after only 6 months.
