A Team Effort for a New Healing Garden:
A new healing space for patients and visitors, the Mercy Hospital garden includes several site features; including a 50 ft. long interactive fountain, a wood trellis structure with stone veneer columns, custom bench seating, raised planting beds and a 12 ft. high water-wall fountain. The complex site design posed numerous challenges. Working with the project’s site designer, I prepared the site grading plan, determined the fountain elevations and provided detail oversight for the other site features.
My responsibilities included:
• Working with an inter-office design team in developing the garden design.
• Providing direction to the primary design landscape architect with respect to site grading and water fountain design.
• Proposing design revisions that simplified construction methods and reduced project costs.
• Reviewing construction details developed by junior landscape architects.
• Aiding material selection for trellis, water fountain and bridge elements.
