Ancient Middle East 3500 - 600 BCE

Kaunakes were skirts that wrapped around the body worn by both men and women. They were probably made of sheepskin with the fleece still attached and then supplemented by woven cloth. When the fabric was long enough, the end was draped over the shoulder and it was belted around the waist. Servants and soldiers wore shorter lengths while royalty and deities wore longer lengths.
