I have currently designed a multi media speaker using Google sketch up. I am in the middle of developing my design. This shows my development so far with this design. I would like to add more features to this product to make it multifunctional. Any ideas about how I could do this?
While I was finishing up my development I decided to make a model of what I had. This model consists of 9 pieces of cardboard which is joined up with a glue gun. I have created my speaker in a triangular shape because I have noticed that there are not many looking like this already. This model shows partly how the finished product will look like.
This shows the model at a different angle.
After modelling I decided to go ahead and make the product. I decided that I would make the product out of walnut. I chose walnut because I really liked the dark colour it came in. Another reason is because walnut is easily machined, so I can do most of the cutting out a laser cutter. After making all the pieces on 2D design and cutting them out on the laser cutter I started joining them together. I joined the pieces of walnut together with PVA glue and covered it in masking tape to make sure the pieces of wood stay together. This picture only shows part of the product.
This is the top part of the design which is also made out of walnut. I don't plan to stick this on to the other part of the product with PVA. I want to put a hinge on it so it can open and close. I want to do this because I want there to be an IPod dock under this piece, sitting on top of the other piece.
This picture shows how the product will look when both pieces are joined together with a hinge. The iPod dock will sit on top of the bigger piece and right under the smaller piece.
After letting the pieces dry I decided to add the grill to the shell of the speaker. I covered all three sides with the grill to make sure that the speakers don't get damaged.
This is the acrylic piece which I use to hold the speaker in place. I line bended it to make it stand.
This is the Apple IPod dock.

Multi Media Speaker

I am currently studying product design in sixth form and am designing and making multi media speakers. My target market for the speakers I am designing are teenage boys at the age of 13-18. I would really appreciate some feed back on what you think and how I can improve the multi media speaker.
