MMI Outdoor, Inc. asked us to design a personal tent for the United States Marine Corps to replace the tent they currently produce for the Marines. The current tent weighs 8 lbs and its structure is made of a single fiberglass cord which allows the tent to be folded multiple times to a size that can fit in a soldier’s backpack. The tent, itself, can be assembled quickly and easily, but its rainfly can be difficult to set up. Also, once in the tent, there is little separating the soldier from the ground.
Design Criteria:
To create a combination sleeping cot and tent for the U.S. Marine Corps that would be both lightweight and portable, as well as meet the many rigorous requirements for a soldier in the field.
