In 2008, SMCA Design Center made a decision to utilize Sharp Corporation’s position in the solar industry and move forward with designing, producing, and marketing its own off-grid solar-powered LED pathway luminaire. A solar pathway light was already being produced by Sharp in Japan, however this new light would be developed from concept to production specifically for the U.S. market.
