Roji chair

The Roji (Japanese tea garden) chair was inspired by Isamu Noguchi’s coffee table. The Brief was to recreate the design language of the Noguchi coffee table into a different furniture piece. The challenge was achieving Isamu’s unique balance of organic/artificial shapes and materials. Drawing inspiration from the serenity of a Japanese tea garden, the Roji chair incorperates organic shapes and white ash wood with artificial Plexiglass and lines that juxtapose the natural lines and achieve balance. This chair was handmade and uses traditional mortese and tenon joinery methods.
