The nebulized Pentamidine treatment is one of the lengthiest hand-held nebulizer treatments.
Having to hold the apparatus upright whilst continuously inhaling and exhaling for approximately 30 minutes was the focal root to most of the problems.
One of the few salient issues include pain building up - from holding the nebulizer for so long. A break is often taken midway through the treatment as it helps in giving patients (especially a young aged patient) a sense of control over what is happening. Having nowhere safe to temporarily place the nebulizer in an upright position leads to the nurse having to always turn the medication off.
The designed kit consists of a handsfree device and a nebulizer dock. Both products work hand in hand in eliminating these issues, enabling patients to undergo a treatment that is no longer hand-held and continuously turned off.
