Bench - The bench project was one that the end product was not dictated originally, and began with gesture models, and drawings. The final concept is based off of a tree, or mushroom shape. The idea was that the bench would fit perfectly into the landscape of a park, or recreational area. The design is heavy, to deter it from being stolen, and the layered effect creates easy drainage.
Digital Media Device - This project had the limitations that it needed to be a consumer electronic device, have a user interface, and be something non-existant in the fantasy realm. I decided to design a form of digital camera, a multi-media device. It is capable of taking still photos, video, and is a personal handheld device with the capability of editing photos, recording drawings, and note taking. It was designed with the novice in mind, with large buttons, and easily accessible controls, that allowed for anyone to be able to operate this device with relative ease.
Toilet - The toilet design was a collaborative project, with a fellow classmate, Ryan Meaux. We decided to design a toilet, simply because the concept of the modern toilet has been unchanged, other than cosmetic facelifts, for many years. Our intention was to design a more efficient unit, that was also a design that aided in the health of the person. It is suspended off of the floor, for easy cleaning, and is attached to the wall. The toilet and sink form out of a central column, and this column could house a mirror, or a variety of toiletries, such as a toilet paper dispenser, or toothbrush stand. The unit is a graywater device, in the fact that once the toilet is flushed it would be refilled by the water from the sink, after you wash your hands.
Jewelry & Purse Designs - The jewelry pieces were a study of the techniques and processes involved in making unique pieces of jewelry. All of these items of jewelry are handcrafted and designed with a certain user in mind. The purses evolved out of my love for purses and the use of leather and fabric in design. Each purse was designed with a different age group, and occasion in mind. Two were hand beaded, and a matching wallet was created for one of the beaded purses. Two were designed for teenagers, and involved recycled denim, these two were also reversable desings. The last purse was designed with the working woman in mind, and to compliment a certain outfit that she might be wearing that day.
Day Hiking Bag - The day hiking bag was a project that generated from a site in a subtropical climate, the design was dictated in the fact that it needed to be a portable product, that would contribute to the aesthetics of the site. My design solution was to design a hiking bag, because it allowed the user to appreciate the site, without detracting from it, and was fully portable and customizable. The bag is able to disassemble into 3 seperate compartments, allowing the user to carry only the supplies needed for a day hike. Studies were done to evaluate the exact amount of items needed for a day hike and the weight limitations for the hiker. The bag was designed to accommodate these items specifically and to carry that amount of weight.
