"Sharbat Gula" I saw her face on National Geographic and was inspired by the fierce gaze in her eyes. This was the first person I'd ever painted, and it was an enjoyable challenge.
"The Little Girl Inside Me" This digital illustration was such a fun project. I drew it out first in pencil, scanned it in, and drew the rest of it with a digital Wacom tablet. The concept shows how I often get excited about things (like princesses and plays and pretty dresses) that others are bored with. It is so fun that we all have different interests; I'm glad God made us all unique.
"Ella" It was so fun to capture the joy on this precious 2 year old's face. Painting the warm and cool tones on her face was a challenge that I learned much from.
"Serene Posture" This was a quick oil wash painting for a class project. The hair was fun to draw, as was her regal posture.
"Ghana Girl" A friend snapped a photo of this girl while he was in Ghana, Africa on a missions trip. The joy in her eyes shows that even in her poverty, she is so happy to have God.
"Lauryn and Bryon" I painted this for some friends who got married this summer. Congrats!
"Biondina" Master copy of Lord Leighton's Biondina. I learned much about skin tone and details.
"Julie" This was the first attempt at painting a portrait from life. I learned about facial structure while painting this. Painting from life is so valuable.
"A Light Smoke" A commission of my physical therapist's grandmother. I enjoyed painting the truly vintage aura of this snapshot.

The Color of Life: Painting People.

People are God's most precious creation. It is so fulfilling and enjoyable to paint people in various stages of life and emotion. The eyes are always my favorite part!
