AIGA Headquarter NY

The project is to design the new headquarters in New York City for AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Designers) to expand their visibility and accessibility. The facility will offer interesting and exciting areas for members and will include offices for the administration and staff, as well as exhibition space, a lecture hall, a member’s lounge, and a library. Also included is a gift shop and bookstore.

The building site is in the West Chelsea gallery area, located at 450 West 17th Street. The space consists of two adjacent buildings to be integrated into one contiguous space. The exterior of the larger building has a historical Federal façade that the client would like to change the façade to enhance and to incorporate the design of the interior space. Both structures have unconnected basements that can be combined. There is a garden in the
back of the building that can create a useable outdoor space.
