My biggest project was to create a replica of Giacometti's sculpture 'Large Head.' There was a lot of pressure on this, as the piece is so big, it's hard to miss him in the set! Because the sculpture had to be transportable and safe on set, I made a hollow frame out of chicken wire, covered this in papier-mache, then added a thin layer of plaster on top to get the texture. Here he is again! I also made the two uncovered female sculptures in the background here. (copyright Low Sun Films)
Here's Giacometti's original sculpture.
The studio set in all its glory! Most of the busts here were by Olly Williams and the tall sculptures by Antonia Atha. I did the medium-sized female and the smaller, skinny figures. We worked as a great team, dividing up the work to play to each of our strengths, while always keeping in mind that the work needed to look like it was all done by the same person. I mainly worked on the smaller-scale pieces. My masterpiece was the 'Bust of Annette,' which you can just make out here, bottom left with the red paint on the torso. (copyright Low Sun Films)

Final Portrait (Feature Film, 2016)

As part of a team, I sculpted plaster and clay replicas of works by Alberto Giacometti for the 2017 biopic 'Final Portrait', directed by my personal hero, Stanley Tucci. Production Designer, James Merifield and Set Decorator, Sara Wan, did such a beautiful job recreating Giacometti's studio in minute detail. This film was such a joy to be a part of. It was one of those rare occassions where everything falls into place: a great team, who all got along and produced somthing we can feel truly proud of.
