With the growth of city-wide secure cycle parking schemes, I identified a gap in the market for a new flat packing secure cycle storage unit which could be delivered on pallets reducing delivery costs drastically. The Flat pack armadillo was designed to fit 5 bikes within a 2.35m x 2.1m space meaning two can comfortably fit inside a parking bay without breaching city council regulations which are aver looked for all other products of this type on the market. Using insights from our large fabrication outfit I rapidly innovated and improved the product as it was in the early stages of production to reduce lead-in times, fabrication processes and most importantly cost. The current product is in fabrication and it has been praised for its low carbon impact when considering the system thinking angle of all embodied energy from fabrication to installation.
