After receiving a care package of goodies from Parisian football league Le Ballon, I decided to make good use of the gifts by creating a bespoke football shirt from one of the badges included in the package.
Given the linear corporate identity of Le Ballon, the first thing that came to mind was the scene from The Shining where Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) rears his head through the door he’s just axed.
From there, the other details of the shirt take shape:
The scene where Jack’s incessantly typed out “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” and his son riding his Big Wheel through the Overlook Hotel.
The lower left badge is a parody on the UEFA Respect logo with the labyrinth/maze from the movie and Jack’s son writing out “REDRUM” on the door.
The badge on the right sleeve is a spoof on the Ligue 1 badge, where the ball’s pattern takes inspiration from the Overlook Hotel’s carpeting. And a shoutout to another of Stanley Kubrick’s movies, 2001 and the eye from HAL9000.
