Steelcase - Design and plan for the Santa Monica showroom space for Steelcase Contract Furniture (20,000 SF). The redesign of the space is locally relevant to its site. Santa Monica maintains their position as a leading sustainable city, highly diversified. The largest contributor of pollution in the area is urban runoff. My design looks to the process of water treatment for inspiration.
Level 1 Floor Plan / Inspiration - This form of pollution is especially damaging to the ocean and the Southern California coastline. Because of this contamination, Santa Monica is a leading proponent in finding creative ways to treat contaminated water. The Santa Monica Urban Runoff Recycling Facility has developed groundbreaking means of filtering the runoff.
Level 1 Reflected Ceiling Plan / Concept Development - Steelcase has a similar goal -- to protect the environment from further contamination. They are creating products that do not off-gas which harms the ozone, pieces that are developed from recycled materials and they are deterring consumers from tossing old furniture into landfills. Steelcase is filtering our garbage for us, giving incentives to recycle. They are creating products that are more refined and ultimately better for the environment.
