There are approximately 11.3 million people who are legally blind in the US, and many are great artists in different media, including photography. However, there is a lack of understanding and appreciation for these artists, because their work is often less exhibited and sometimes even completely neglected by galleries and museum. As a designer that has seen many brilliant photos take by the partially sighted, I feel a sense of urgency to show these great works of art to the world.
I propose to hold a photo exhibition for this unique group of artists, with catalogues that contain examples of their works, testimonials and information on blindness. I also propose to start an online community that allows the public to see their work and leave insightful and engaging comments.
The intended result for this exhibition is to show the public these works of art, and most importantly to increase the appreciation for the partially sighted artists.
