Build Casa Mica/Izbushka - Vernacular Architecture/Ethnographic Research Project
Small hut based on Slovak, Romanian (Wallachian), and Carpathian rural vernacular architecture along with some Saxon & Alpine elements. Many of the exterior details are derived from Slovak wooden churches recently refurbished/restored by UNESCO. Interior and exterior details adhere stringently to these traditional styles. Some details include hardware modified to look hand wrought, traditional designs and wood carving on decorative details. Wooden timbers culled from species indigenous to the Mid-Atlantic US fitted for rafters and framing throughout (Tulip Poplar, Black Cherry, Black Locust, White Pine) along with recycled wood from shipping pallets and crates for floors, doors and trim.
