Sustainability is a very important aspect of today’s architecture. Recycling, reusing is a huge part of sustainable design.
Bay bridge eastern span is such a prominent project which had it cultural and iconic influence. However, after being taking down, all the pieces will be melting down and sold as scrap to China. This thesis is exploring the possibilities of using the deconstruction steel of the old eastern span of bay bridge (the deck truss and the through truss) as part of an architectural proposal.
My proposal is that it will become a new walk/bike bridge connecting Treasure Island and Yerba Buena Island, furthermore connecting the new bay bridge trail, coz the trail stopped at Yerba Buena Island now. So people can bike/walk all the way from Oakland to Treasure Island, and take the ferry to San Francisco in the future.
